What we dO

Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees is a local charity formed in 2017 originally to help support refugees from Syria resettling in the Sevenoaks district, as part what is now the UK Government's global UK Resettlement Scheme. We are also helping refugees from Afghanistan and Ukraine to resettle in our area.

We are a small and growing organisation, with about 100 active volunteers. We are currently helping to support the resettlement of 8 refugee families from Syria and Afghanistan in the Sevenoaks district area, and are hoping to find accommodation for further families this year. On Ukraine, about 35 families (c. 80 people) have now been matched with local host families.

Afghanistan

Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees is now playing an active role in the Afghanistan refugee resettlement programme. Sevenoaks District Council is participating in the Afghanistan resettlement programme, as well as the Government's ongoing global resettlement scheme. But for refugees to be resettled in our area we need to find more landlords willing to rent their properties to the scheme at Local Housing Allowance rates. We need more volunteers to help us search for more landlords.

Please see the details of what is on offer to Landlords: click here.

UKRAINE

Please see Ukraine Crisis for the latest updates.

All of us at Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees will do what we can to help refugees and asylum seekers from Ukraine – and from all other places of conflict - resettle in the Sevenoaks District.

TO all OUR volunteers !

Volunteers Week - first established in 1984 by Volunteering England, and now coordinated by NCVO (the National Council for Voluntary Organisations) is celebrated between 1st and 7th June every year. It is a week in which the UK celebrates volunteers and says thank you for the contribution that they make.

We thought this is a very good moment to thank all the volunteers of Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees for everything that you do: thank you!

Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees is an entirely voluntary group; there are no paid employees. We can only make a difference through our combined efforts and teamwork. And if you’re not yet an active volunteer, all our strands of activity need extra people to help – please let us know if you’d like to get involved.

Thank you!
